Day 1 Saturday
Cold, Cold and more Cold weather started off the weekend for the first state qualifier for "The Bass Federation Nation". The Fort Myers Bass Hunter made a good start for the season. Malcolm McCollum and Danny Williams finished in the top 30 spots with 80 fisherman entering the event. Malcolm finished in 14th place overall and Danny finished in 25th position. Danny was moved to a non-boater status for the tournament. Malcolm and Danny both pre-fished in the Taylor Creek area. Danny caught two bass over 5 pounds near boat dock along the creek. The first day both headed back to the Taylor Creek area were Malcolm caught a limit of fish in the first hour of fishing. While heading to area were they found fish Malcolm observed schooling fish near an narrowing canal. Malcolm picked up his Strike King Red Eye Shad and casted into the schooling fish. The fish average between 1 to 2 pounds. Danny pitched a Zoom Super Speed Craw into heavy cover and picked up several fish. His remaining bag of fish were caught near boat docks.
Day 2 Sunday
Malcolm and his new partner decided to head to the Kings Bar area but due to the cold weather they decided to move to a different area were there was deeper water. Malcolm caught several fish in the Old Sportmans Village area. Schooling shad were in the area in deeper water and several fish were caught but they were under size. Later in the day Malcolm moved back to the Kings Bar area were the area had thin out with fisherman and Malcolm could go to work. The (Money Maker) Zoom's Super Speed Craw did the job. Malcolm hooked into a 6 plus pound Bass near the cat tails. This was the first keeper in the boat. The second fish came near thick vegatation near Goverment Cut. For the two days Malcolm ended up with a total of 7 fish with the weight of 14.56 pounds. Danny was in the Old Sportsman Village area were he limited out using a Drop Shot setup with a small Owner Circle Hook and Culprit's Smoke/Black/Pearl Drop Shot Worm. Danny caught approximately 20 fish but the were averaging between 1 to 2 pounds. Danny finished the tournament with a combine to day total of 8.51 pounds of fish.
The Stren Series
Roger Gonzalez from Miami fished the Stren Series during the same week. At the end of the first two day event Roger was in 3rd place 41 plus pounds of fish. Roger made the cut by being in the top 10 after two days of the three day event. The last day Roger couldn't get the fish to bite. Roger fished the Cochran Pass area but the weather changed the fish stop biting. Roger caught 1 fish on the last day that made him fall back to 8th position. There were 200 boats in the event and Fort Myers Bass Hunters showed their skills on theBig O.
